ago. Brilliantly translating the personal into
the universal his work combines satire with
irony, audacity with sincerity, precision with
emotion. After a lecture on Mahler’s
life, times, and music, and a light supper at
INSCAPE Whitehall, we hear Mahler’s
astounding Fifth Symphony at the Barbican which
Herbert von Karajan described as ‘a
transforming experience… you forget time
has passed…’
