Fractures and fissions, convergings of multiple
viewpoints, shallow and ambiguous spaces and
faces; aspects of Cubism have challenged,
confused and rivetted since its
appearance. From origins in Cezanne and
primitivism, Braque, Picasso and Gris brought
different views of a subject together on the
canvas helping to inspire the writings of
Gertrude Stein and James Joyce, and the complex
music of Varese and Schoenberg.
